Terrell Owens

Inducted April 2007

Photo From: sports.webshots.com

Former wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles and currently with the Dallas Cowboys. Went to Super Bowl XXXIX with Eagles (lost). Named to five consecutive Pro Bowls. Currently 4th all-time in receiving TDs. Had NFL record 20 receptions in a single game.

Shameful Moments:

-Gained infamy on September 24, 2000 in Dallas when he celebrated a touchdown against the Cowboys by running to the midfield star logo twice (Cowboys safety George Teague hit him on his second trip to the star - Teague was ejected and Owens was suspended for a week by the 49ers and fined a week’s pay)

-Celebrated a touchdown against the Seattle Seahawks on October 14, 2002 by pulling a Sharpie marker out of his sock to sign the football and proceeded to give the ball to his financial adviser that was in the stands (this is unofficially the reason that there is an NFL rule that players can’t have foreign objects on their person during a game)

-Celebrated a touchdown against the Green Bay Packers on December 15, 2002 by running over to the cheerleaders and asking for pompoms followed by a spontaneous dance to the camera (received much media scrutiny for his antics after scoring touchdowns)

-Insinuated in a Playboy interview that 49ers QB Jeff Garcia was gay after leaving team following the 2003 season

-Did an intro to Monday Night Football with actress Nicollette Sheridan where Sheridan drops her towel that was condemned by many observers as being sexually suggestive (no punishment was given)

-Made remark to media in February 2005 that he “wasn’t the guy who got tired in the Super Bowl”, most likely referring to Eagles QB Donovan McNabb although Owens denies it (caused the relationship between the two to intensify)

-Suspended by the Eagles for 4 weeks on August 10, 2005 for a fiery exchange with coach Andy Reid (allowed to return a week later but was given a legal document stipulating the behavior he was supposed to follow)

-Got into a fight in the locker room on November 3, 2005 with former Eagles DE Hugh Douglas, who was acting as an ambassador for team management

-Continued to make negative remarks toward McNabb and Eagles organization during 2005 season (suspended for 4 games without pay and was then deactivated for the rest of the season)

-Spat in Atlanta Falcons cornerback DeAngelo Hall’s face during a December 16, 2006 game (fined $35,000 by the NFL)
